Eco Friendly Ways to Store Breast Milk

Eco Friendly Ways to Store Breast Milk

After watching Lily from the popular tv show series 'How I Met Your Mother' breastfeed her child, a thought popped into my head. Plastic breast milk storage bags are meant to be disposable, that's a lot of plastic waste! I challenged myself to think of eco friendly ways to store breast milk. After some research, I found the exact answer I was looking for.

So what are some eco friendly ways to store breast milk? The most eco friendly way to store breast milk is to use sterilized 8 oz mason jars for kids under the age of 1, and once your kids start drinking more milk use 12 oz mason jars (usually for 1+ year olds). If you don't think you'll use the freshly expressed milk within 4 days, freeze the breast milk immediately to prevent waste.

If you think you'll use the freshly expressed breast milk within 4 days, keep it within a glass container in your fridge. Make sure you don't keep your breast milk in the door of your fridge or freezer. The reason for not keeping your breast milk in the door of your fridge or freezer is to prevent temperature changes from the opening and closing of the door.
